Impact that the industrialized world is having on the world's oceans
A lot of people think that global warming, caused by carbon dioxide, is the only problem that has an impact on the world’s oceans. The massive amounts of carbon dioxide are a big problem too because they are changing “the chemistry of the oceans, making them more acidic”*. Ocean acidification is a problem because it affects cold-water corals and marine life in a negative way. The acidification of pH in the oceans could easily destabilize and kill an ecosystem. If there are less corals, it will affect ocean life, fishing and tourism.
Oceana, a group who protects the world’s oceans, is trying to find solutions. They are campaigning to reduce carbon emissions and prevent the death of many species.
